What happens when the clapping stops? (Past)

How to house our key worker heroes. The first event of the Key Worker Homes Fund knowledge exchange.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought long-overdue recognition of the critical role key workers play in supporting society and sustaining our cities. Thanks to their efforts, we can live as free, educated and safe people. The movement in Spring 2020 to clap for key workers demonstrated collective appreciation. But we all know that they deserve more than applause. It is as urgent now as it was then to permanently improve their quality of life.

So where are we now? What do key workers want; what do they desperately need; what can we do to help? This first event, in a series hosted by the Key Worker Homes Fund, invites active reflection and ideas for recovery.

The knowledge exchange series gives the stage to London local authority leaders, housing association heads, union chiefs, policy makers, economists and urbanists and asks them to share empathy, opinion, insight, and expertise. The three events are bound by the question: how can we improve the lives of key workers in our city?
