Throughout my life, I have been led by a deep sense of purpose to eradicate poverty, improve the global quality of life, and create a world where everyone’s needs are met. This led me to work in real estate, where I hoped to one day develop equitable cities and build schools. These goals remain unchanged; however, last year, I began to question how I could make a stronger, more visible impact now, rather than in the future. I started my career at age 12, working across retail sales, hospitality, nonprofit education, and real estate, gaining early exposure to how organizations operate and how different stakeholders experience them. To expand my knowledge, I earned my B.A. in Corporate Communications from Baruch College, with a minor in Psychology, where I built a strong foundation in public relations, strategic communication, storytelling, stakeholder engagement, and organizational behavior. Shortly after graduating last year, I took an intentional sabbatical to align my career with my purpose directly and to learn how to address the world’s most pressing challenges. This led me to explore topics such as global development, wealth inequality, systems thinking, and regenerative post-growth economic models. Both my academic and professional pursuits continue to reinforce my belief that businesses can play a powerful role in creating a flourishing world, particularly when they are aligned with a clear purpose for human and planetary wellbeing. Today, my goal is to help more businesses harness their power for socioenvironmental good by partnering with leaders to explore how their operations, stakeholder experiences, communications, and strategy can more fully align with their purpose, mission, and vision. I also plan to build a not-for-profit real estate business as another example of what the next generation of business will be. I am actively seeking opportunities to continue learning through real-world experience, mentorship, and collaboration. If you resonate with my mission or are also working to make a positive impact, please feel free to connect with me, and let’s plan a virtual or in-person coffee chat!

I have been interested in the grand challenges for a long time, and the concept of donut economy finally validated my aversion to consumerism and how my research can have an overarching framework of the principles of planetary boundaries as a guiding North Star.

I became frustrated with micro-level work in addressing youth homelessness locally a decade ago and began a long journey to find answers to addressing it instead on a macro-level. Now, here we are. I’m in my last semesters as a Social Work student, and will be applying for a Master’s in the field this year to work on what we’re all talking about here.

Humanity Horizons
Uganda
Humanity Horizons is an indigenous, youth-centered Community-Based Organization (CBO) registered in Uganda in August 2024 (No. 80034487117857). We emerged from the dual crises of post-conflict trauma and climate vulnerability, committed to transforming adversity into agency. With 64% youth unemployment, 32% mental health challenges, and alarming rates of HIV/AIDS and maternal mortality among girls (UNFPA, 2021), Uganda’s next generation faces systemic barriers to opportunity. We respond with purpose, Humanity Horizons equips secondary school students with climate literacy, entrepreneurial mindsets, and inclusive leadership skills positioning them as agents of change. Our programs are anchored in evidence-based, community-driven approaches that address critical issues such as deforestation, waste management, and food insecurity. Through strategic partnerships with schools, communities, and government stakeholders, we co-create scalable, sustainable solutions aligned with the SDGs, Uganda’s Vision 2040, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Our flagship Annual Student Climate Summit amplifies youth voices, fosters innovation, and transforms classrooms into hubs of resilience and social enterprise. We invest in dignity, agency, and systems change—ensuring that young people are not just beneficiaries, but co-architects of a just, green, and inclusive future.

I sometimes say that I'm not an urban planner interested in sustainability but rather a sustainability nerd who chose urban planning as field of work in order to get as far as possible towards sustainability. I learned about the doughnut when studying in London in 2015, tried to use it as framework in various urban planning projects in Sweden the years following that. Now trying again, love to see that the community has grown so much! Hoping to learn to internalise the 7 ways in what I do. I might contribute with knowledge and know-how of urban planning, project management and workshop facilitation.

I am a molecular biologist by training, and over time my scientific background naturally expanded into science communication, where I focus on making complex ideas accessible and engaging—especially through climate science presentations and STEMM talks for students in schools and colleges. Alongside science, I am deeply passionate about social justice and the belief that environmental issues cannot be separated from equity, access, and community wellbeing. What draws me to the DEAL community is its ability to bring ecological and social justice together under one umbrella, offering a thoughtful framework for imagining and building a more just, sustainable world. DEAL resonates with me because it aligns with both how I understand science and how I want to contribute to society—by educating, engaging, and empowering the next generation to care for people and the planet together.
