I'm a former cook turned to researcher, working in Fundació Alícia, based in Spain. I work mainly in territory and heritage centered projects, and I'm interested in sustainable food systems and finding solutions to our actual food problems.

I am currently studying MSc Food Security and Natural Resources at CAT I'm interested in everything to do with the agri-food system in the UK and globally and strongly believe in the power of the Doughnut and the potential it has to bring humanity within planetary boundaries.   In regards to the current food system I believe that alternative economics are key to creating a just and regenerative food system that supports stakeholders and participants at all levels, while also restoring and giving back to the natural world. Modern economic theory with its strong capitalist leanings and emphasis on globalisation does not work for the production, consumption and disposal of food, and we desparately need to create environments for alternative ways of thinking and being.

Having worked for many years in international food marketing, I recently educated and re-trained Sustainability, food system challenges and Circular Economy. I'm interested in helping food businesses re-think their models  to ensure they are helping people and planet to thrive. Member of the future food movement and volunteer at the social entreprise The Pantry Partnership in Salisbury - re-distributing industry fresh produce waste to those most in need in communities.

Born and bred in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, Samuel is an agribusiness professional, a public sector consultant and an agri-food systems researcher.  As an agribusiness professional, was engaged in multiple research and business projects at levels of the agri-food sector in Ethiopia.  The most impactful among these include AgricaJice Tibila, a passionfruit juice export company. He was responsible for leading projects developing the nucleus as well as the outgrower farms supplying the fruit. As a consultant, he contributed to multiple impactful social and public sector projects across Africa. Working in numerous production and distribution companies in Christchurch, he acquainted himself with New Zealand's food and beverage sector. He is currently completing his PhD in agribusiness, focused on improving the performances of Agricultural value chains using the system dynamics methodology. His demonstrated ability to thrive on multiple pioneering challenges avails his analytical, modelling, consulting and managerial skills to challenges ahead. Regarded as a value-driven professional, he is a leader with deep, dynamic, and systems thinking. He is in line with DEAL's advocacy for reforming economics and orienting it towards systems thinking. I envision learning from and collaborating with the LEAD community.

I'm a father and secondary school teacher, and I'm looking to apply what the people at  are discovering to my local community. I live in a rural part of the world, and the changes our farming community has seen over the past decade have been pretty alarming. With that in mind, I would like to make connections and build on some ideas with others on this platform. I am the furthest things from an expert, which is why I'm turning to you at the DEAL community to help. Primarily, I'd like to focus on initiatives,   and projects, with the goal of improving the in these areas, in local communities with the aim of building in our . Bigger picture projects would be something like , or making local communities more energy independent; also, improving to go beyond memorization but actually apply and synthesize what we're learning to improve the our lives and the lives of others. Lastly, I would also like to think about  , and bring in the older and wiser members of a community to advise, plan and implement ideas and strategies that will  improve the lives of the younger generations, and those to come. I believe this can a lot of this can be done by working with . I am also aware that this is not easy, and will require a   away from perpetual that is mostly individualistic and towards a richer, more world that is more community-focused. We aim to reverse the impacts of the polycrisis facing us and enable our communities to build resilience through a circular economy. The Doughnut resonates deeply with us and we are thrilled to be developing and adapting kaupapa/projects that reflect the need to balance and prioritise systems change at all levels of society. WE are currently working on a Tribal Summit for a Circular Economy 2024 and a Kai (Food) Systems Strategy for our region.
