Mutual Entrepreneurship for Social-Ecological Innovation and Territorial Resilience
This pilot project, which is part of the collective work in progress process BoraBeirã, is coordinated by the Planeta Alecrim Learning and Practice Community and seeks to open new conversations about a more resilient future using the cross-border rural territory of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park in general and the municipality of Marvão and the freguesia of Beirã in particular as a scenario to ground the reflections.
The Serra de São Mamede MicroBioRegion is a hinge territory between two of the most peripheral, impoverished and ageing regions in Europe (Alentejo & Extremadura). This mosaic of ecosystems is home to a very high natural and cultural capital, but it is also exposed to a very high degree of ecological and social vulnerability in these times of deep systemic crisis, which forces us to collectively build new responses to deepen our interdependent relationships, as a community, and our eco-dependence with the planet.
Mutual entrepreneurship is a model of entrepreneurship for innovation and territorial resilience that emerges in the convergence when different social-ecological entrepreneurship initiatives participate in a dual design process at the same time, on the one hand, they autonomously define their activity models and, on the other hand, integrate them into a shared territorial construction strategy.
In this way, these initiatives, together, build a complex structure of entrepreneurship that we call Libélula, because this insect is precisely one of the best environmental indicators that can be found in a territory, as it only survives where the quality of the air and water is good enough to support its life.
The activity combines various approaches and methodologies among which are the EARTH approach to support the creation of products/services, the HIP Model as support for the co-creation of new governance models and various DEAL tools to support the creation of the strategic territorial approach on which the initiatives will interact.
