I am a transformational futurist and the CEO of the Southern African Institute for Strategic Futures and Foresight.  I currently focus on the economic future of African  and BRICS-aligned countries. My focus lies in the fact that Africa, BRICS and the broader Global South will experience substantial growth in the near-to-mid- term future.  My concern lies in the fact that the globe (as far as resources and the environment is concerned)  will be put under even more severe stress, given the added strain that the resource requirement of this new growth will place on the commons.

I have been working as a mechanical design engineer since 2016. For most part of this time, I have been in the renewable energy sector, designing solar cell production machines and a wave energy converter. In the first week of 2025, I started to realize that green growth is not the answer to the problems we have today. We need to use renewables but that’s not enough. Me understanding that our economic system’s endless pursuit for growth was the epic underlying factor for many of our big problems we have today was transformative to me. The donnought economy and other well being economies resonates with me. I want to be a part of making them into a reality.

I’m a sole practitioner interior designer running Materialise Interiors, Brighton-based B Corp certified interior design company since 2005.     My book ‘Sustainable Interior Design’, commissioned by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Publishing has just been published. The book explores eleven approaches to a sustainable interior design, with the goal of inspiring the interior design industry to work in a better and more conscious way.   I’ve studied Regenerative Design and am now Living Future Accredited  (Living Building Challenge) and am able to support regenerative projects and products that improve and enhance. I’m a keen follower of human-centric, healthy design principles - I’m a Parson New School Healthy Materials Advocate and FitWel® Ambassador and have completed the ONE PLANET LIVING Action Plan and Associate training. Prior to setting up my own company, I spent 10 years as part of The Body Shop team learning about ethical business and sustainable design, delivering store concepts and specifications globally within their retail design team.  My ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, sustainability using circular economy principles and vegan specifications learnt at The Body Shop has translated into my own business, to the extent that my business gained B Corp Certification in April 23. In 2017 I was the first interior designer in the UK to be VEGANDESIGN.ORG CERTIFIED™.  Named as PETA’s Compassionate Designer in their Vegan Homeware Awards.  I’m a co-founder of Interior Design Declares - the interior design industry's commitment in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse. I’ve served a full term on the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Sustainability Committee - where we have delivered a Sustainability Strategy for the professional body, and the Sustainable Specification Guide which I co-wrote which is freely accessible to all.  I’m part of Circular Brighton & Hove, and am also a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. I’ve been in the design industry for over 30 years after graduating in Furniture and Product Design in 1993 from Nottingham Trent University, going on to win the New Designer’s consumer product design award.

Akosua Owusua Acheampong is a enthusiastic young professional in # sustainability  and # FinancialInclusion . With a backgorung in # economics (major) and # mathematics(minor), she is on a pusuit to merging the two aforementioned field. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in corporate sustainability, specifically fintech, and working on impactful developmental projects with development partners to financially include the # underbanked . Finding DEAL was her "aha"moment, considering that she has been trying to find the intersection point between economics and sustainability. Companies, governments, institutions, and individuals are all becoming aware and doing something to help. How about our economies? . Outside of work, she hosts a sustainability podcast together with some colleagues, titled, "Road to Green", which was launched in June 2024. I'm the community building coordinator at Oxfordshire Community Land Trust, which works to empower local communities across the county to take ownership of land and manage it in ways that are meaningful for them.  My job involves building relationships, capacity and momentum among communities so that they can shape and participate in OCLT's projects. At present, the focus of these projects is affordable housing that places care for both people and planet centre stage. One big advantage of developing housing on this relatively small, local scale, is that we can do so in an innovative way. So we're experimenting with how we can build in a way that is not just low-carbon, but regenerative, using biobased materials produced locally. Our hope is that by doing this we can demonstrate what a different kind of construction economy might look like – one that takes our planetary limits seriously while also improving human health and wellbeing.

Hello! I'm Gökçenur Uysal, an Environmental Engineer and Sustainability Consultant specializing in ESG management. I hold a Master's degree from King’s College London on ESG Management.  My professional experience spans compliance with ESG disclosure requirements across the textile, footwear, and engineering sectors, focusing on carbon reporting, stakeholder engagement, and innovative strategies to reduce environmental impacts. I am skilled in applying the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 for accurate reporting and have conducted carbon validations accredited by BSI. I joined the DEAL Community to engage in knowledge exchange and learn best practices in sustainability and environmental management. I am particularly interested in developing AI-driven ESG reporting tools and delivering solutions compliant with CSRD/ESRS, GRI, and IFRS standards. Additionally, I am passionate about circular economy models and their potential to redefine economic growth within planetary boundaries. My training in the Circular Economy Masterclass by the University of Exeter has deepened my understanding of sustainable economic systems, and I am eager to explore applications of the Doughnut Economy model in creating regenerative and distributive businesses. I believe this community will inspire me and open new horizons in my journey to devise sustainable and impactful solutions. Other areas of interest include carbon accounting, water management, and environmental impact assessments.
