The DEAL Community Platform Turns One!

Celebrating one year of turning Doughnut Economics from a radical idea into transformative action.

Today we are excited to be celebrating the first anniversary of the DEAL Community Platform (this website) which first launched on September 29th, 2020.

Since launch, more than 7000 people from all around the world have joined the DEAL Community. Together we have crafted and shared more than 70 open-access tools and 100 stories, and attended more than 130 events.

The most popular tools and stories so far

Our most read and shared story was ‘An Indigenous Māori View of Doughnut Economics’ — wherein Juhi Shareef of Moonshot:City and Teina Boasa-Dean collaborated to reimagine the Doughnut from a Māori worldview.

Our most used tool was ‘Creating City Portraits’ — an extensive methodological guide for downscaling the Doughnut to the city and turning it into a tool for transformative action. (An updated version of which is currently in the works, co-created with the community).

What’s next for the DEAL Community Platform?

The DEAL Community Platform was, and is, an experiment in co-creation. We have continued to learn, adapt and evolve with the help of the DEAL Community and we often share our ongoing reflections and learnings in the monthly DEAL Newsletter.

For example, back in our very first issue, we highlighted some key community feedback - around connecting with other members, keeping track of new activity, and more - which went on to directly feed into a range of new features that we released in June of this year.

Back in March we also launched the Platform Development Hub, a space for the whole community to feed back directly on the platform itself and suggest improvements and new features to help empower everyone to put the ideas of Doughnut Economics into practice.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions in the Platform Development Hub as we embark on a new phase of development and updates. We’d also love to hear your reflections on this first year, and where you would like to see the Community Platform go next.

Thank you for all of your contributions to the DEAL Community so far — here’s to another great year!
