We are exploring use of the Doughnut Economics model in the new Management Plan for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, inspired by Helen Lucocq at Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (https://doughnuteconomics.org/members/11526) and others.
The vision is intended to be more engaging than a paragraph of text, and to be a simple framework on one page, which we can discuss and unpack at different levels of detail.
Thinking from the Doughnut Economics model is reflected in the high level words, plus obviously in the visual circle representation, with our place/landscape depicted through a photo as the ‘safe space’ (inspired by an event poster from Grenoble, merci !). We have simplified the ecological ceiling and the social foundation each to those factors most relevant to the National Landscape and taking into account the priorities we have from our government. The positioning of our six priority headings are adapted to the Doughnut model and also fit with the photo (i.e. climate above the sky, land at the bottom).
We hope to complement this with a data-derived 'snapshot' doughnut further into the Plan, embedding the concept right through the Plan.
We are still developing the Plan so this Vision isn't fixed yet, but feedback on it has been good so far. Comments from doughnut practitioners are very welcome!
