I am a chartered structural engineer who, in last several years, has held more multi-disciplinary design team leadership roles. I advocate for best practice in design and implementation throughout the built environment with a keen focus on sustainable (environmental, economic and social) development, and beyond resilient design. My project work has been diverse but has included a significant amount of healthcare related projects, and I have been supporting the promotion of healthy lifestyles in the built environment through planning and design. I am also a WELL AP. Disaster mitigation and disaster risk reduction are also key areas of interest. I am originally from the Caribbean region – an area particularly susceptible to natural hazards, such as hurricanes & earthquakes, & increasingly vulnerable because of the climate crisis, all hazards I have addressed in my work. My career has meant I have been based in Barbados, United Kingdom, Belgium, Turkey, Qatar, and The Netherlands.

I am a pharmacist, PhD from the University of Paris-Saclay, director of research at the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD), member of PharmaDev associating IRD with the University of Toulouse. For 39 years, I have been conducting research on natural substances isolated from Amazonian biodiversity (plants and insects), active against infectious agents (Helicobacter, Salmonella, Staphyloccocus, Aeromonas) and parasites (Leishmania, Plasmodium). My job as a researcher has led me to be interested in the future of wild biodiversity, especially in the Amazon, and in the human societies that live there. I wish to contribute to the reflections which allow to integrate its needs in a sustainable world economy based on the respect of our mother earth and the social rights of the underprivileged.

As the co-initiator of Donut Berlin, I am passionate about co-creating regenerative and redistributive cities, and bringing Berlin into the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries. I am a polymath, I love learning across the fields of systems thinking, human development, technology management, and sustainable business, and connecting ideas in ways that create long-term value for people and the environment. My experience as a scholar, speaker, founder, author, lecturer, consultant, and community manager has taken me to 30+ countries and reinforced my commitment to collaboration across national, cultural, and geographical divides.
