I am a possibilist with wide open senses for connections and constellations. I have a huge curiosity to learn and I love to share and transmit my learnings.  I am a sustainabilist who turned her long term private concern for sustaining global and local ecosystems and social justice into political climate activism in 2019.  Convinced of the benefits of systems thinking I am enthusiastic about the Doughnut Economy as a role model and communication tool for the social-ecological transformation we need.  I was lucky to meet a couple of likeminded Doughnauts to embark on the exciting journey to start the Donut Berlin Initiative.  Let's did it, Berlin!

5 years ago after organizing a Family Day for 2,500 people, I saw the balance in waste and became aware of the great environmental damage that can be done just for fun, I was shocked. Immediately afterwards, I created green devices where the children learned to separate at source for better use, since this material was then taken away by cooperatives to sell it for recycling, thus infecting their parents and we managed to mitigate, but the enthusiasm did not last long. I could quickly see that the third R (recycle) is by far the most ineffective. I researched, studied and graduated in waste and founded “A TRANSFORMAR. Waste + People + Environment”. The impact is still small but it goes to the bottom of the problem in everything I undertake. Last year, reading Kate's book, I co-founded a multidisciplinary group and became a promoter and activist for Donut Economics in order to achieve greater impact in different areas: school, community, municipality.

For 4 days a week I'm Senior Policy Officer for Systemic Change at the European Environmental Bureau - which is Europe's largest environmental non-profit. For 15 years now, I connect grassroots struggles for justice with the bigger economic system errors that really need to change. Educational background: master in geography (2002) & postgraduates in conflict studies (2003) + investigative journalism (2007). I've investigated environmental frontlines all over the world, both as journalist and for civil society and created the economic the transition cluster at the EEB . My opinion pieces (+-10 / year) appear in mainstream media and my third book, “Frontlines. Stories of Global Environmental Justice” was praised by influential thinkers and voted in the top ten climate books by climate activists globally. I'm Belgian and speak Dutch, French and English. Also love hiking, football and my kids & wife (not in that order)

I am lawyer and a public policy strategist from India, working on promoting responsible business conduct. A big chunk of my work is in the food and agriculture sector, where the margins are narrow, the race to the bottom to reduce labour costs is almost a universal norm and profits in global value chains seldom trickle down to the last of their upstream segments.  I have been circling the idea of implementing donut economics principles in the agri-food sector, and here to understand it better, and learn with this community.

Male 80 years of age now house bound, worked full time, 51 years, mostly as an engineer then as a health and safety advisor. I have published a few books at great cost since retiring Ernie Hasler: Founder member of Emmaus Glasgow. In 1997, I read in my church magazine “The Plain Truth”, about Emmaus Cambridge, a community of previously homeless people. I phoned them and they gave me the phone number of a Glasgow based individual who was also interested. Initially, four of us held a meeting showing a video featuring three Companions, and as a result we decided to bring Emmaus to Glasgow. Father John Lyons, a Glasgow Priest, gifted us an established charity shop which provided essential cash flow. After many setbacks caused by gazumping and high staff turnover, we purchased and converted a building capable of accommodating 27 previously homeless people with their own flat and full on-suite toilet and shower facilities.  After a very slow, loss making start up and a high turnover of staff, we slowly increased numbers and presently support an average of 22 Companions.  (Most Emmaus communities have learned not to rely on a single super manager, but on shared responsibilities within clear Emmaus Policies and Procedures). It is easy for slack leadership to be subverted, and the ethos of constant community improvement diverted to individual benefits. (favouritism).  We progressively lost the original board members, except for me, but attracted other good volunteer trustees by word of mouth, most were remarkable people, willing to give their wide-ranging advice free of charge while maintaining the ethos of Emmaus. (Emmaus Ethos is different, because it provides a home for as long as someone needs it and is willing to fit in with simple rules and relationships, in the Emmaus community. This gives people the opportunity to take stock of their lives, deal with any issues they might have, and often re-establish relationships with loved ones. There have been many successes with some Companions moving on to good qualifications, jobs, partners, and supporting children). Yes, Emmaus is a challenging place, requiring constant improvement. Even those who do not stay long, may have been able to use the short period of security and stability to change course for new destinations.  The house clearance business is very subject to cost-of-living pressures, with less quality household items presently being donated. Although there is still scope for repair and upcycling adding value. Some Companions have shown talents in this area.  During my 24 four years on the Emmaus Glasgow board of trustees, I attended many of the annual Emmaus Assemblies and I was much inspired by the leadership of Terry Waite. I had to drop off the board a couple of years ago when I suffered a short blackout, I crashed my car on to a rocky shore of a sea loch, making me house bound ever since. I cut up my driving licence to prevent being tempted at 80 years of age, to drive again. I am now training to try to do Emmaus UK’s “Big Marathon Challenge 2023” walking with my rollator, a marathon during the month of May. Roughly a mile a day. I have just started and can manage a couple to three hundred yards a day. I Hope to raise £100 for Emmaus UK, not a lot, but requiring a big effort for a whole month.  I think the Emmaus community is an example of applied Doughnut Economics.

Hello. I came across your work after reading Donut Economics, by Kate Raworth, and I was hooked on the message. Right now I believe that the ideas that are proposed from this community are directly linked to the need for a global paradigm shift to address anthropogenic climate change.  I am 59 years old. I'm married. I have 3 children. I have a degree in chemistry and have worked in food quality and safety in the private sector, in Murcia, my region, for more than 30 years. I also have experience as a secondary school science teacher. I am especially concerned about anthropogenic climate change and its consequences on our planet, on our societies, on our environment. I believe that another world is possible, despite the harsh reality that we have before our eyes, and that every grain of sand helps form a beach...
