We have published the following tools which are particularly useful for researchers:  • Creating City Portraits, which describes the applied methods that were chosen to create City Portraits in several cities, including Amsterdam. It also identifies useful resources and alternative approaches that we came across in the process of downscaling the Doughnut to places (available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Portuguese). • List of Academic Articles and Reports, which engage with the core concepts of Doughnut Economics (updated periodically).  If you are wondering about DEAL support for your thesis/dissertation, unfortunately our small team does not currently have capacity to get involved on an ongoing 1-to-1 basis. That being said, we may be able to direct you to others who share your interests within the wider research community if you get in touch using the DEAL Contact Form and select the ‘Research & Data Analysis’ category. If you are wondering if DEAL can potentially collaborate as part of a research project grant application, please bear in mind that our small team is at full capacity with existing commitments at the moment, so we have to choose new collaborations with care. Barcelona is embracing Doughnut Economics through a series of actions. They are developing a City Portrait through desktop-work led by researchers, followed by a series of workshops with different departments, and with city stakeholders (organisations, community groups, trade unions) and residents. They have also organised a series of public debates 'for a new economy' open to all residents, and are beginning to explore pathways to bringing the City Portrait work and the Doughnut into policymaking.

Leeds, England, United Kingdom

I am Doughnut Economics/ Engagement Lead at Climate Action Leeds, working for a 'zero carbon, nature friendly, socially just Leeds by the 2030s'. This is an ambitious, Lottery-funded project linking up local and city-wide communities to act, plan and build a movement of action and change.  We are using Doughnut methodologies to help us do this in a range of ways.  - We set up the Leeds Doughnut Coalition which has been meeting regularly for over 3 years - We carried out the first Leeds Doughnut City Portrait in 2022 with the University of Leeds providing a data baseline for the city: https://www.climateactionleeds.org.uk/leedsdoughnut - We have made 2 short illustrated films - the first is about the Leeds Doughnut here:  - The second short film, 'The Clothes We Wear' is about clothing and fashion through a doughnut lens: https://www.climateactionleeds.org.uk/post/the-clothes-we-wear-cal-launches-fashion-film-at-major-leeds-event  channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@climateactionleeds864 - Working with the Roundhay Environmental Action Project in a Leeds neighbourhood to develop a local doughnut selfie portrait. 

Leiden

After attending environmental biology education in the eighties, organising international environmental education in the nineties and performing research and consultancy on sustainability form the start of the millennium, I got involved in the activities of the lokal foundation "Ideewinkel" in Leiden in 2010. Since 2014 as projectleader of the "Groene Ideecafé", I offer together with a working group a platform for local sustainable initiatives. It aims to inform, inspire connect and activate the network of citizens, that aim to apply the global sustainable development goals at a local level. Inspired by the Amsterdam City Portrait, I started looking for soul mates to initiate and support the process with the Leiden Donut Coalition. With the help of the local network of social an ecological networks, and the energy and enthousiasm of students of the programme Governance of Sustainability, we want to create the first Leiden City Selfie and formulate recommendations on how to proceed to complete the Leiden City Portrait. To contribute to reaching a balance at local and global scale between the needs of people and safe planetairy boundaries.

Vienna, Austria

I am a team member of Donut Wien (Doughnut Vienna) and want to help bring Vienna into the doughnut. One of our core projects is to create a city portrait of Vienna, which shall serve as a compass for the city's transformation (and hopefully also as a model for further doughnuts in Austria and abroad).  Over the last 25 years I have been working in business consulting, international development cooperation, public R&D funding and as finance manager in small biotech companies.
